Not all students have a payment plan and I don't always know who will select to have a payment plan before adding FA. You need an option for a payment plan that takes the overall balance and breaks it down into payments.

In terms of this particular idea, this functionality actually exists within the billing module today as long as you have configured your financial aid items to follow the student's payment plan. You can configure this as the default at the parent FA item or student by student when adding credits to their accounts ... of course, this assumes that you also support Payment Plans on the student account. If you configure credits to follow payment plans but a student doesn't have a payment plan, then the credits will not apply.
Agree needing overall balance to be an option for payment plan.
Would be optimal to chose what is included in payment plans.
