Make default statement the most recent closed period

When parents receive a notice from me to check their statement, they go to statement and the default period in the drop down is the ‘current period’. This period does not reference the charges for which they just received a statement notice. I send parents notice of their statement when the period has closed. For example, on the 16th of January, I notify parents billing for charges from December 16th to January 15th are now available. All of these charges have a due date of February 1st. It does not make sense to send parents a notice for upcoming payments while I’m still adding charges to the period. They will be very frustrated to pay a bill at the time of notice. Then get a past due notification because they paid too early.

I do not want the default period to be the current activity. I would like the default period in this drop down list to be the most recent closed period based on the date. Meaning:

For January 16, 2024 the default period would be 12/16/23 – 1/15/24

For January 15, 2024 the default period would be 11/16/23 – 12/15/23
