Custom Fields should Include other Form Types Besides Text Input

I would like the ability to add drop-down options or check boxes to School Forms, but the Publishable Fields in Custom Fields are only text-input. School forms currently can only pull in these text-input custom fields. There is no option for other types. This would allow us to create better School Forms, if we could choose from more custom field types.

This is an improvement, however, for the purposes of many of our forms we use the Custom Field so that it shows on the student profile. Custom Fields are still text input only which means that if we use one of your new form field types, we still have an extra step to take which would be to do a bulk upload to the custom field. Admin View Only fields have multiple input types and it would be very helpful to have the same options for Custom Fields.

Excellent to have form fields on all the forms, but it says it will not show on the user's profile?

Although this is a much appreciated step forward, there is more needed. The checkbox list should have an option to select one and only one option. I also agree with Alexander's comment below. The ability to set a text field entry limits and validations are needed. For example, if you are collecting a phone number, then set the character limit to 10 characters, and allow only numbers. Validation would fail if there are less than 10 characters, or if a non-numerical character was entered, and the field would accept no more than 10 characters.

Another case would be for collecting email addresses. Allow only characters allowed in a valid SMTP address, for example no spaces would be allowed.

We recently added the ability to include form fields on all School forms, which means you can add a variety of custom question types to any form with yes/no input, dropdown, checkbox, or text.

This has been languishing in ideas for 6+ years. Any idea when this might get implemented?

I would like a date format option.

I'd like to add to this a request that we be able to implement a "Display Only" form control on custom fields (ie. we put in the info and it is not editable by the user). We're trying to establish a form for equipment liability but cannot specify the equipment per student; if we could just DISPLAY the custom field, it would be much more functional! I'll also add this as a separate idea.

We are not looking to change any behaviour or site integration; this would essentially be just a data input validation.

    Hi All,

I am the new Product Manager for K12 Core. I understand your frustration for how long this idea has been posted. I'll look in to this with my team. I think one of the potential issues in implementing this change is that it is not just connected to the Forms tool. The Custom Fields touch so many areas of the system, it may be very difficult from a coding perspective to change the way they behave. However, I do see how this can make your lives easier and I will investigate this issue and let you know what I find out. As always, I sincerely appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

Why can't these be tied to table values? This ticket is SIX years old with no movement. Update, please.

A similar idea to this was posted in 2018: https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12CO-I-2197

Allow a pdf upload so that we could collect physicals or other forms and have a place to store them.

yes! This would really help, especially since the policy and procedure recommendations in the trainings tell us to use tables to keep our data entry streamlined. Please make this a priority!

Yes, we're coming up on 3 years for this fairly simple request that has clearly already been implemented on the "admin view only" side of custom fields. We've had to turn down teachers and staff who want to use School Forms because they're not powerful enough. Please look at the UI of services like Google Forms and Survey Monkey as a model.

It's been 2 years since I commented on this. Has there been any movement on this idea?

Would love to see check boxes, upload functioning, date/time fields.

I would like the option for customizable fields so that we can create drop down menus (eg., to list over the counter medication options from our school nurse) etc.  We also need a paragraph format (rather than just text) so that we may have adequate space to list Authorized Pick-ups...being an elementary school this can be a long list!

Yes, I would like Custom Fields to have more then just a text option.  For example a drop down menu or Yes/No option.

This would be a very helpful addition.  Allowing custom fields to appear on different tabs/cards would also be nice for example see this feature request: https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12OR-I-461
