people finder and student search consistency and coherency

People finder behaves differently in Academics than in Core.  Moreover, searching via the directory behaves a 3rd way.

It is also inconsistent..

Consider a student Papadop, Christian.

In Academics\people finder: entering "papa ch"  finds him  [and all students with 'papa" in their names.

In Core\People Finder: it doesn't

In Directory it doesn't 

Now consider entering: "pa ch":   all 3 again act differently, but the two people finders will find all recs starting with "pa" or "ch" in either first or last, which is consistent.

But THEN, if you try, just "p a", it finds nothing.   It seems to me , at this point, it should find all with P and/or A in their names.

 

I suggest:  use regular expression notation *EVERYWHERE* so that we only have to learn it once.

    Hi John and Josceline,

    With March 6 we've fixed the People Finder to work consistently again.  I realize many folks use the Directory as a quick way to find people, and we haven't yet brought that into a common search. I'll leave the idea open to reconcile People Finder and Directory.

    I feel like these issues have just begun. I'm having the same problem and actually just took some screenshots to put in a case because I thought something was wonky.
