We used the school program field in admissions to note which students might need special help.  This field now appears on the student contact card and parents and students can see it.  

When you go to security to try to hide the field, it is not a field listed as other fields are from contact card, to allow hiding.

We have years of history, so moving to a custom field at this point is blind siding us and causing discomfort that it shows to an audience we did not intend for. 

Allowing the field to be hidden from students and parents, as done with other contact card fields, would make it more as expected.
