We use text messaging via Core to notify parents of unplanned emergency events (school closures or late starts due to weather, etc.). I've discovered that I have to fit the entire message within the subject in order to avoid requiring the recipient to login via the auto-generate url to access the message. These texts need to be read immediately, without requiring login on their phones (most simply wouldn't get the message due to the added steps and not knowing their passwords offhand). Because parents have already opted into receiving these texts, requiring them to login to read them seems unnecessary and cumbersome. It would be so much for efficient and readable for the recipient for the subject and message to be sent in their entirety, without login via url.
I’m surprised there haven’t been more comments on this! While we’ve been very pleased with the upgrades Blackbaud has provided over our former system, we deeply miss the direct SMS text feature that doesn’t require a login. This was a key part of our school safety and closure plan. Many of our working families are on the go during the day and can’t conveniently log in to read urgent messages.
We had trained parents to recognize that a SMS Text during school hours signals something important. With all the other notifications they now receive, they’ve become numb to checking their phones. We would love the ability to turn off notifications for news and announcements while still forcing an SMS for critical messages. I hope Blackbaud will consider adding this feature.
Agree completely with Tabitha request for mass direct texts to school families without having to login to their Blackbaud account.
Nearly four years since here comment and still texting not available.
Our previous education management company had this capability so it is possible
