I realize sans serif is much more visually appealing and this might not be possible, but it is especially difficult to separate capital I (eye) from a lower-case L. We had a student come through today with the last name of MaIkhan; the third letter is a capital I (eye) but in context it could be easily confused with "Malkhan" with a lower-case L.
