Give schools more flexibility on the Resource Board with layout options

Right now the Resource Board is basically a cluster of square tiles, and while that works, it can start to look messy quickly as more posts are added. Parents end up scrolling around trying to find what they need, and important items don’t always stand out.

Ideas:

  • Add layout options so schools can organize tiles into sections or columns, instead of one big grid. For example, posts in the middle and quick links on the side.

  • Allow quick links or buttons that go straight to outside sites (like athletics schedules, tuition payments, or volunteer sign-ups) without needing a whole post just to hold the link.

  • Create a “Featured Item” area where we can highlight urgent reminders (like Back-to-School Night or Gala RSVPs) so they don’t get buried in the grid.

  • Let us group tiles into categories (Athletics, Academic Resources, Parent Services, etc.) so parents can jump directly to the type of info they want.

  • Add basic analytics to show which tiles get clicked most, so schools can see what families actually use.

  • These updates would cut down on clutter, make the Resource Board easier to navigate, and help ensure parents don’t miss key deadlines. It would also give schools real feedback on what’s working and what isn’t.

I’m surprised that expanding customization options for the Resource Board isn’t a higher priority. It’s such an important hub — used daily by parents, students, faculty, and alumni — yet schools have very little flexibility in how we present or organize information.

Every school community has unique communication needs, and we know what works best for our families. Greater layout and design options would make the Resource Board far more user-friendly and effective for everyone.

Here is a visual of the idea above. Not a drastic change, but it allows schools the flexibility to organize the resource board to the needs of parents, staff, students, and alumni.
