Include {preferredname|firstname} in all templates where placeholders are used

My specific use-case is Conduct Infraction notifications only have preferred OR nickname, but I know it's not the only place in the system that does this. Is it possible to have this globally applied somehow?

    We would also like to have all our notifications be consistent. We need to be able to use [student preferred or first name].

    Sorry ... to clarify, we are hoping to apply the more sophisticated solution over the {First Name} {"Preferred Name"} {Last Name} alternative. Thank you!
