Add Home Language Survey (HSL) Questions to Applicant Block used by Application in Sequential Order

Add 3 basic Home Language Survey (HLS) approve by U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in sequential order in the applicant block used for the application.

Effective August 1, 2020, all school districts in Iowa must ask these specific three questions at the time of student enrollment (application). Questions:

  1. What is the primary language used in the home, regardless of the language spoken by the student?

  2. What is the language most often spoken by the student?

  3. What is the language that the student first acquired?

These questions should be in sequential order so all language questions are asked back to back on the application.
