Reactivate Parent Accounts when Candidate Reapplies

When you deactivate a candidate, the candidate of parent account access is automatically disabled. When you re-apply a candidate and re-activate their account the account disable for parent should automatically toggle from "Yes" to "No".

Yes, at our school, a family may start to apply multiple times per child throughout their academic journey—potentially more than four times. Common entry points include Preschool, Kindergarten, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 9th grades.

Disabling parent accounts each time an application is inactivated creates unnecessary complications: it typically leads to a 15-minute phone call, or multiple emails, and frustrated parents.

In some cases, it's a faculty member's child who applied elsewhere, and disabling the account affects the teacher's access during the school day. In other cases, it’s a sibling of a current student—disabling the account disrupts the student’s ability to log in, complete tests, or upload homework. Often, we only find out there's an issue after the fact.

I don't know what the wizard is, but I do know that I get irate phone calls from parents to reenable accounts about 30+ a year when we are busy trying to get school up and running.

Hallelujah! Thank you for making this update. It makes the process much
smoother for reapplying families and our admission team.

Hey Sarah - this is great for what it does but it doesn't quite cover all scenarios.

Let's say that a student began the process in 2021-22 but didn't enroll and was eventually inactivated. If that same student applies again for 2022-23, the account will still be deactivated and staff will need to manually reactivate the account.

Could adding a new enrollment year to a candidate's profile also be configured as a trigger to automatically reactivate the account?

Hi there! This morning we've added automatic account re-enablement when a candidate is re-applied from the re-apply wizard. No action needed on your part, it will happen as part of the re-apply/reactivate process.

    thank you,

    Sarah

This is definitely a needed feature. As a workaround, I set up a user list in Core filtered on users with roles of candidate/parent of candidate and account disabled=yes. From there, you can click through the various accounts in the pop-out window and reenable them.

Does this mean we have to go into Core every time a family is re-applied or re-activated, and change the setting on "Disabled Account" from "No" to "Yes"? We are about to enter our second year, so the first year dealing with reapplying families, and this will be a real hassle, if so.

Yes, please! This is a major issue when we reapply candidates.

Or at least make the Inactivation=Disabling Account optional.
