Include custom publishable fields as columns in the candidate list or contract list

We have a field that our consultant added for us that keeps track of whether or not a step in our contracting/enrollment process has been completed. I can pull out the field, but I can't then just click the name of the candidate and go to their record and update the field. Doesn't make it easy to manage for our business office.
