Please change (or have an option to change) the candidate status to Decision when a Decision has been entered. This could be added as an option in Decisions settings.

Or if this is not possible, allow the user to update a checklist item when a Decision is added. We have added a Decision Entered checklist step/milestone which we want the candidate to have when the school has made their decision.
