The amount of time and confusion spent on "Why aren't my grades calculating correctly?" is unfortunate.
It regularly boils down to teachers selecting a category they aren't actively using in their year/marking periods in the grade book setup. I know there is a "GB" listed next to the categories in use, why not only list only those categories?
Maybe include a link below that dropdown box to grade book setup as reminder where to go if they need more categories?
Hi All,
I do believe we resolved this over the Summer. The Assignment Type dropdown when creating assignments defaults to only show Assignment Types selected in the Gradebook set up. IF the teacher for any reason needs to grab an assignment type that hasn't been included in their gradebook setup they can update to show the full list.
Let me know if I'm missing something.
Thanks!
Jackie Christensen
I completely agree. And it does only show the GB for yearlong courses. I did find a report you can run to see which categories in use don't have a percentage assigned. That is what I use to check to see if the teachers have their categories set up correctly.
Yes! PLEASE! And the GB doesn't show up for all users. I can't quite figure out what it is that makes it show up for some, but not others. I think if you set up your grade book by Year Long it shows, but if you set up by Marking Period it doesn't.
Yes please!
This just came up in a training today. We have a lot of assignment types. It would be helpful to teachers if they only had to pick from the three or four assignment types they've chosen for their grades. Careful that you allow for teachers to continue to add an assignment type in Setup with a weight of zero. Our teachers track HW, but don't include that assignment type in the cumulative average.
Agreed, we explain to them what not to do, but they only deal with the gradebook a couple times in a year so it's difficult for the instruction to stick.
I've advocated for this in past; it seems like a no-brainer. They don't have to assign weight additional categories if they need a filler. But they SHOULD be limited tot he categories they select when creating assignments.
