A large teacher constituency will not migrate to the gradebook feature of the on- products because they are reliant on features within other products (such as Gradebook Wizard) that allow them to select options such as "send email to all students in this class regarding their current grades", or "send email to all students that show outstanding assignments". Although opening the gradebook to students for review provides gradebook access, it does not give the teacher the opportunity to document via email a student's current classroom status. Teachers that need to document student cases must do so manually rather than being assisted with the software that already has access to the data.
Until this feature and other Gradebook Wizard features are added, there is no point in using the Blackbaud gradebook. The return on a teacher's effort isn't worth it.
I use Gradebook Wizard because it allows me to send emails automatically to students with missing work, along with specific parents if I've also chosen that setting. This is highly motivating for students and requires no extra work on my part, and I am unwilling to use the gradebook feature in our LMS because it won't do that--even though I have to post assignments in both gradebooks, it's worth it because it motivates students to submit missing work.
I would like to add my vote as well.
