With this latest release, we are now allowing schools to opt into a new Assignment Center experience for students and parents. This Idea has been implemented as part of that new set of features. If your school is interested in learning more about activating this feature in your database, a Platform Manager will need to go to Core > Settings > Activate new features. From there, you can find some enablement materials to better inform yourself on the changes. When your school is ready, the feature can be enabled on that new Activate new features page.
For this particular feature, students can go into their settings in the new Assignment center and use a color picker to decide on a class-by-class basis what color to assign in their view.

Excited to see this happen! As a school whose blocks are themselves color-coded, I echo the comment that this is related to https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12OC-I-1130 -- and that being able to pick colors is pretty important!
Just wanted to make a quick note on this one. We're looking to make some potential updates to the student's version of the Assignment Center and this particular feature is part of that plan. Now, something may occur that causes us to pivot away from this idea, but for now it is something we're planning to build out!
If teaching several sections of the same course, assignments look the same on the calendar. Color would visually discriminate them, making it possible to distinguish courses with a quick glance. The same holds true for students.
My teachers and students have said they will not use the calendar view in particular until it can be color coded. The Assignment Center list view would also benefit.

This would be great for teachers and students!
This would be an excellent addition.
Color code each class for visual learners.
Merge with idea https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12OC-I-1130
This would be EXTREMELY helpful!

Thanks for considering this suggestion!
Teachers want to color code as well.
It would be very helpful.

I have had several students ask if they could do this. This would be a great feature
!
Yes I agree - Even for teachers that would like to color code out courses
