Allow extra credit to reflect in the marking period cumulative if it is the only assignment in the assignment category
It's confusing for students and parents when they see extra credit has been awarded, but that it's not reflecting in their cumulative marking period grade until an assignment is added in the assignment category that is not marked as extra credit.
This is incredibly confusing for teachers. The most frequently asked question at our school is "Why is extra credit not calculating?"
Yesterday we discovered another weird quirk with extra-credit. A teacher added an extra credit assignment and used the "Homework" assignment type. Since the teacher already had two other "Homework" assignments, this should have been fine. However, he noticed that one student's cumulative grade didn't budge at all with the added extra credit. Ultimately, we discovered that this was because that student had been "exempt" from those two homework assignments.
Blackbaud support's response was, "When marking an assignment as "Exempt" for a student, the system acts as if that assignment does not exist and therefore does not meet the criteria for EC."
It is also difficult for teachers to find out how this works, since they don't have access to the Help (and it's not in the docs in any case). Giving teachers access to help, and adding tooltips for the settings would help them understand this better. Our teachers also don't have access to the KB, which is the only place this information seems to exist at present.
