We want to be able to control how teachers' names display for parents/students in their view of information in OnCampus. Currently, it appears that the only option for parents/students (when they're looking at their progress, bulletin boards, and schedules) is to see teacher first and last name (without their prefix). We have had to "work around" the issue by removing all the teacher prefixes and changing them to their "first name." This way, parents and students see Mrs. Smith or Dr. Johnson rather than seeing no prefix and the teacher's first name. We are not opposed to having students/parents seeing teachers' first names as long as they can also see the prefix. Long story short, we either want the prefix to be shown to parents/students or we want the ability to choose what kind of name format we use (formal or informal).
Any thoughts about this? Like others, it's a little silly to not display formal names with prefixes. I can think of 2 significant ones... First, to differentiate an adult teacher from a student, and second for clergy, doctors, etc... Its a big difference between "Tom" and "Fr. Tom".
I also have several teachers that don't want students and parents to see their maiden name. Even though a teacher has de-selected the maiden name field from showing in their profile for students, parents, non-teaching staff, etc., when the teacher sends a Learning Management System "message" to a parent or student, it displays the teacher's first and last name with their maiden name in parentheses. Support indicates that this is hard coded and cannot be changed and suggested that this "idea" be added. Although we could delete the maiden name from the contact card in Core, then we lose access to this information for Human Resources and other business processes.
It's really bizarre to me that we can't control teacher salutation like we could in Education Edge. Having schedules for middle and high school students with the teachers' first names on them is really odd. At the very least, we should be able to have it say "Mr. Mike Jones" or "Dr. Julie Smith" - kids don't even know how to address their teachers on the first day of school!
