The amount of time that is wasted by teachers trying to manage this process is inordinate and many of our teachers are choosing to use Google Classroom instead due to bugs like this. Here is a link to Google's documentation on how to change permissions using the API: https://developers.google.com/drive/api/v3/manage-sharing
Most teachers who still use Blackbaud as an LMS at our school (many have switched to Google Classroom now) use the Google Assignments LTI integration which basically gives you Google Classroom with integration to the Blackbaud gradebook/reports. This avoids this issue with permissions.
I see. Can you send me an email? ben.leddy@blackbaud.com
I have done this multiple times with no success. Support asks me the same questions, and I explain what's happening. I've showed a complete class submitting documents with not a single one getting permissions. There is no relationship between what I and my students see and what is in the training video made in 2020. I really need this escalated to someone higher up because it's making our teachers continue to use Google classroom as a backchannel to Blackbaud. Support can't simulate a student in our domain, but I can replicate this over and over.
Hi Dave -- I would encourage you to surface what you're experiencing to our support team. We opt in teachers of a class to be recipients of a Google Drive file when shared by the student, so if that isn't occurring for you, something may need to be looked at in your set up.
Ben - none of our teachers get permission to view when this happens. They are constantly asking students for permission after the fact.
When students add a Google Drive link, teachers on the roster are automatically selected for sharing. If you're finding an exception to this, however, please reach out to support so we can look further into it. Thank you!
