After selecting "Publish Grade" without attaching a rubric to an assignment, faculty members are under the impression that the mark they assign is visible to a student. However, a grade is only visible to a student if it is attached to a rubric. You should be able to enter a grade value and have it visible next to "Graded" within the assignment.
