Close a Discussion Board from further replies after Expiration Date of assignment

One teacher found that even though a Discussion Board assignment had expired, students are still able to post replies to the Discussion Board.  BB Support reported back that the only way to not allow further responses is to unpublish the assignment, but that makes it disappear from view.

I agree with the original request and would also add:

    • Students should not be able to edit a previous response after the due date.

    • If a student edits their work, the submission should reflect that with a time stamp. (Ideally, a teacher could see the content of the previous iterations to see what was changed)

Side topic, but connected, if a teacher activates the option to hide other posts until a student responds, a student shouldn't be able to edit their response. Currently, a student can post a blank response, read other students' responses, and then revise their own post without a teacher knowing or being able to prove it.

Yes, discussion board tool needs a button to end student ability to post when the discussion activity is finished, close the discussion. If a teacher uses discussion as a graded assignment, we and the students need the discussion assignment to still be viewable in their graded assignment list.
