Access submissions through Gradebook

Would really love to be able to also access submissions through the Gradebook. Cumbersome to have to go back and forth between Assignments and Gradebook - would prefer to be able to work solely through Gradebook (dislike Assignments). Would also like to set default view options for Assignments (ie. current month, previous 30 days, previous week, assignments not yet graded....)

I'm excited to share that teachers can view and annotate student assignment submissions right from the gradebook. Check out this 1-minute video for a walkthrough!

Hi all! The gradebook release is coming soon, and this will be addressed shortly thereafter.

Angie, has the new gradebook that fixes this issue been released?

Hi Angie - as a math teacher, I have my students submit homework daily, so my gradebook is filled with gray "S" icons. The S is wonderful for the first grade through and if someone doesn't turn something in because then they get the M for missing, and when I see an M and an S, I know they had it missing then submitted it. So I can grade that. But when a student needs to re-submit, it would be nice to have maybe an "R" indicating a re-submit occurred and have the icon not be gray, because it blends in with the S, A, and T icons. Then once it is re-graded, the icon is an S. Having the cell change color indicating a resubmit would jump out more - then when an updated grade is added to the system, then the background color would be back to normal. Basically if the timestamp on the submission is newer than the timestamp on the grade update, the cell would be a different color; if the timestamp on the grade is newer than the timestamp on the submissions, the cell would be a normal color.

Hi @Chris Felinski right now the (s) icon displays in the gradebook when the student submits and persists. Teachers scan for those that have the (s) but no grade to see which ones are waiting/new for them to look at. Would your expectation be that the (s) goes away once the attempt is graded so that if they did a second attempt it would trigger that icon showing up again? or would you expect that the (s) still persists and there is a different icon to indicate 'resubmitted'? We haven't talked about changes to the submitted indicators in GB but open to suggestions as we're still in a place that we may be able to squeeze something in. Do you want to open a new idea for what you're thinking so we can track that conversation as it's own? Thanks!

Thanks for the update Angie! One other question with that - if a student re-submits something at a later date, such as late work or re-doing an assignment, will the cell change color or some indicator be there to let the teacher know that the specific assignment has a new submission? Or will it still be a manual process to know if something is submitted?

Hi all, we do have this planned but we won't be releasing our new gradebook until next spring heading into summer as it's part of a larger feature conversion with a lot of improvements we don't want to disrupt during the school year. General feedback from the community has been to not do major releases until summer.

Is there a timeline for when this will be implemented?

Being able to access an assignment for a student through gradebook would be incredibly helpful. While grading assignments in assignments is fine, having to navigate for makeups and such is cumbersome and time consuming. This would be a feature and I am excited to see it.

It is definitely those moments of late work that this is so important. Otherwise it means writing down each assignment, then going back to look at it. I am so glad this is planned!

I was just coming to request access to submissions through the gradebook! I am in the process of grading late work and to have to go to gradebook to see who was missing- then to assignment center to see the submission is time consuming!
