Google has a new app that is separate from google classroom but does a lot of what our teachers like. When you use their assignments, it automatically creates a folder in drive with the assignment name in the class you select. Then, if you have a template doc you share with them it automatically NAMES it with their name and the name of the assignment. No more "untitled" or "copy of" as assignment names.
Any update? It says planned. Did this get bumped on the roadmap?
@Seth Battis is this a limitation of the LTI in Blackbaud not allowing XLSX files or a limitation within Google? If this can be replicated in Google Classroom's assignment tool then the issue is with Google. Curious to know so I can flag this with my org.
When setting up Google Assignments as a teacher, there is an error if a teacher allow document submissions in the native Blackbaud k12 LMS side.
These submissions are not passed through to Google Assignments. Teachers need to check off **No Submissions**, to force students to click on Google Assignment link so documents are submitted within Google Assignments Area.
@Michael Morrissette, when working on 1.3 LTI please consider turning the native submission to "No Submissions" when a teacher selects "Google Assignment"
Feedback a colleague shared with me, following the recent Assignment Center EAP survey, relating to the integration of Google Assignments:
The interface with Google Assignments remains a bit cumbersome. It would be nice to figure out a way not to have to launch the Google Assignment every time.
Google Assignments' refusal to accept xlsx files is annoying. Indeed, the entire MS/Google hostility is generally annoying.
It would be nice if the Assignment Center brought one to the same page as the Assignment tab on the Class Page would be nice.
Still waiting for the "make a copy for every student" function. Also, why doesn't the due date assigned in Blackbaud sync with the one in Google Assignments?
I have not been able to make Google Assignments do anything at all with a Blackbaud LTI connection. Is there any comprehensive doc that shows me every step needed in both Blackbaud LMS and Google Assignments for an admin, teacher, and student?
This Blackbaud help page seems to leave out some important steps, but I don't know what.
If We still can't do assignment templating, what (if anything) would I gain if I could actually make the Google Assignment integration work today?
Hi Folks -
Just wanted to log a quick note on this Idea as we're beginning to implement LTI 1.3 and I wanted to explain how this affects the existing Google Assignment 1.1 connection.
With this first iteration of LTI 1.3, you can begin to launch tools that are also LTI 1.3 compliant. Google Assignments, for now, only supports a LTI 1.1 connection with the majority of LMSs, ourselves included. Even if Google Assignments did allow for a 1.3 connection, right now we would not be able to surface the screen that allows for the templating features that I know is highly sought after.
Our goal is to achieve the LTI Advantage standard. At that point, we may be able to bring that templating feature to all of you. I appreciate your patience as we work through implementing this feature. I know it's been a long time coming and it's really something we want to get implemented so you all can take advantage of the optimization that LTI Advantage has to offer.
For now, your existing Google Assignment 1.1 connections will continue to function as they always have.

Regarding today's announcement about LTI 1.3: https://community.blackbaud.com/blogs/17/9001?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=website&utm_source=community.blackbaud.com
Does this mean we can finally get the "make a copy for each student" function?
Just checking in to see if there is any update on LTI 1.3? Will the full synching features of Google Assignments (assignment content, due date, description, etc.) be available any time soon? It's really not feasible without that level of integration.
Is there an upate on this?
We would really benefit from this feature and would love an update if there is one.
Is there any more information on when or if we can expect the template ability / full function for Google Assignments to be available? When is the upgrade to LTI 1.3 expected?
This would be a hugely useful feature, especially for the ability to give student feedback directly in the document. Thank you! Looking forward to this enhancement!
I'm also interested in this integration. Any updates?

We integrated this however the "Attach" button is missing when a teacher creates a myHPA Assignment as shown here.
The image on the left is our integration, the image on the right is from Google doing a video about Google Assignment integrated with Canva. When I submitted a ticket they said it's nothing on their end to talk to Google. When I spoke to Google they said they don't provide support for the Blackbaud integration and to go to the google assignments community. Come on Blackbaud, get with it!!
Being able to force a copy for students is very important to our teachers....Google template!
Thank you for the update, Ben!
Thanks for the note, Megan. The template ability should come with our upcoming upgrade to LTI 1.3, so I've designated this as Planned to reflect this.
This isn't fully implemented. The original request include:, "Then, if you have a template doc you share with them it automatically NAMES it with their name and the name of the assignment. No more "untitled" or "copy of" as assignment names." We currently don't have the ability to use a document as a template that automatically makes copies for each student.
