Allow Teachers to Easily assign an assessment or test to a specific group of students to accommodate the Hybrid students or Fully Remote students Merged

Please allow Teachers to Easily assign an assessment or test to a specific group of students to accommodate the Hybrid students or Fully Remote students. It would be nice if the teacher could create an assignment or test and assign it to only specific students in that class section. It would be even nicer if the teacher could either select each student to take the assignment or test one at a time based on the teachers discretion like for mock trial groups, where the teacher would just put a check next to those students in mock trial A to be able to take Trial A test and they would just put a check next to those students in mock trial B to be able to take Trial B Test since the cases were different for each mock trial. In addition if teachers could select groups of students to take the assignment of test based on a Custom Field we created such as Group. So that the teacher of Underwater Basket Weaving section one could say those students with a Custom Field Group of "Group 1 Hybrid" will take test A on Monday, those students with a Custom Field Group of "Group 2 Hybrid" will take test B on Tuesday, and those students with a Custom Field Group of "Group 1 Fully Remote" or "Group 2 Fully Remote" will take Test C on Wednesday. In this scenario the Tests could all have the same questions so that is why we do not want Group 2 Hybrid students to be able to see or take the Test on Monday, or the tests could all three have different questions. Thank you for your help!!

Happy to share this is implemented! Thank you for your votes and advocacy. From our release notes:

Assignments for individual students or groups

Teachers can now add assignments for a specific student or group of students. Teachers can use this for makeup work, extra credit assignments, group projects, and more! Teachers will need to select the students the assignment should be assigned to when they add a new one. Under Publishing options, they will need to select the Edit icon next to Full Section then select Selected students. They will then see their course roster and can select students from the available list.

Once an assignment is assigned to specific students, it will appear on the Assignment center with # students listed. Teachers can select this to view the students they have selected for the assignment. Teachers can add additional students by editing the assignment. Students will only see these assignments if they are assigned to them.

Not only is this good for hybrid/remote learning, but it's also good for those of us using content-based grading - reassessments are on an individual basis, but the assignments list is getting overloaded when an entire class sees every time a reassessment is assigned.

So happy to say this is coming! We will be working on this in the next couple of months.

Yes - assigning assessments to small groups of students or individual students that are remote learning would be ideal.

The current situation we are implementing is all students are on campus in school 5 days a week UNLESS you are positive or medically vulnerable. The teacher is giving a paper quiz but wants to create a replica online in assessments for the online learners. We do not want to email the blank quiz to the students if we can avoid it. If we could create an online assessment and assign it to only a subset of the class that would solve the problem!

Some of our teachers also use a similar program called Blackboard in the college classes they teach in addition to our high school classes. Our Teachers say that this program Blackbaud is hands down a better and easier program to use then Blackboard, so I wanted to give a huge shout out to everyone at Blackbaud for creating an excellent program!!! I also wanted to say Kudos to the Blackbaud's Customer Service team, they are the most helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly customer support representatives I have ever dealt with. (I have done customer service in the past) That being said, the teachers would like Blackbaud to add a feature that Blackboard has. Blackboard lets them create groups to divide the students in the same class section into smaller groups. Then the Group name they created shows up next to or under the student's name on the gradebook screen. When they create an assignment they are able to just select one group with it's own start and due dates, so that only students in that small group can see and take that assignment (i.e. the other students in the same class section can't see it or take it). For example in Blackboard in the gradebook they would choose add Group in a drop down, which would open a mini Group creation window that would let them create a name for the group and would have a list of all the students in that class section that they could put a checkmark next to, to indicate they will be part of that group. For example they could divide their one class section of 30 students into 3 small groups: Mock Trial A, Mock Trial B, & Mock Trial C with 10 students in each. It would be absolutely fabulous to be able to create Multiple Groups for the same student. So there could be multiple Group Levels. In other words a student could be in one group called "Group 1 Lasallians Hybrid" and in a separate second group called "Mock Trial A". In that Mini Groups Creation window it would be great if the teachers could see custom fields such as the Groups field we made, so that teachers could see which Group they were in for the Hybrid or Fully Remote platforms. For example the teacher could divide their one class section of 30 students into 4 smaller groups: Group 1 Lasallians Hybrid (8 students), Group 2 Brothers Hybrid (12 students), Group 1 Lasallians Fully Remote (4 students), & Group 2 Brothers Fully Remote (6 students). Then in the Gradebook for example next or under John Smith it would say Group 2 Brothers Fully Remote & Mock Trial C, Sue Brown Group 1 Lasallians Hybrid & Mock Trial B, Bob Jones Group 1 Lasallians Fully Remote & Mock Trial B... Then when a teacher created an assignment there would be a Who Takes It section with an if statement and drop downs for say at least two groups (could be more if you want), with the ability to enter or choose parenthesis, AND operators, and OR operators. So if the teacher creates an assignment called "Lasallians Supreme Court Test" in the Who Takes It section they would select IF student is in Group 1 Lasallians Hybrid OR Group 1 Lasallians Fully Remote they will be the only ones able to see & take that assignment starting Monday & due Tuesday (i.e. including all Lasallians regardless of what Mock Trial group they may be in. also ignoring all Brothers). So if the teacher creates an assignment called "Brothers Supreme Court Test" in the Who Takes It section they would select IF student is in Group 2 Brothers Hybrid OR Group 2 Brothers Fully Remote they will be the only ones able to see & take that assignment starting Tuesday & due Wednesday (i.e. including all Brothers regardless of what Mock Trial group they may be in. also ignoring all Lasallians). So if the teacher creates an assignment called "Lasallians Mock Trial A BrownVsEd Test" in the Who Takes It section they would select IF student is in (Group 1 Lasallians Hybrid OR Group 2 Lasallians Fully Remote) AND in Mock Trial A Group they will be the only ones able to see & take that assignment starting Wednesday & due Thursday (i.e. ignoring the students that are in Mock Trial B or C groups even if they might be Lasallians. Also ignoring those in Mock Trial A group but are a Brother) So if the teacher creates an assignment called "Brothers Mock Trial A BrownVsEd Test" in the Who Takes It section they would select IF student is in (Group 2 Brothers Hybrid OR Group 2 Brothers Fully Remote) AND in Mock Trial A Group they will be the only ones able to see & take that assignment starting Thursday & due Friday (i.e. ignoring the students that are in Mock Trial B or C groups even if they might be Brothers. Also ignoring those in Mock Trial A group but are a Lasallian) So if the teacher creates an assignment called "Fully Remote Mock Trial A BrownVsEd Paper" in the Who Takes It section they would select IF student is in (Group 1 Lasallians Fully Remote OR Group 2 Brothers Fully Remote) AND in Mock Trial A Group they will be the only ones able to see & take that assignment starting Friday & due Monday (i.e. ignoring the students that are in Mock Trial B or C groups even if they might be Fully Remote. Also ignoring those in Mock Trial A group but are a Lasallian Hybrid or Brothers Hybrid) For now the ability to put a student into just one Group in the gradebook would be fantastic for example Joe Smithers is in the group called "Group 2 Brothers Hybrid". Eventually it would be great if we could put a student into more then one group in the gradebook, for example Joe Smithers is in one group called "Group 2 Brothers Hybrid" and also in a 2nd group called "Mock Trial A". This would be able to be setup differently based on the teachers preference. i.e. some teachers could choose to not put students into any groups, some could choose to put all their students into one group, or some teachers could choose to put their students into two or more groups. Thank you for your help!!! Keep up the fantastic work! Have a blessed day!
