Schools to be able to define special assignment grades

It is nice to have grade indicators such as missing or incomplete on assignment, but I'd like to propose that the gradebook administrator be able to define this list of indicators. Furthermore, the gradebook administrator be able to define how these special grades interact with the grade calculation. Some examples would be:

  • Exempt: handy for assignments that should truly be exempt.

  • [Value]: where the entered value is the score of the assignment (I would put 0 here for missing and incomplete).

  • [times a multiplier]: so that a school's late work policy can reduce the grade by a certain percentage (e.g. if a school's late work policy is 20% off then you'd put an "x.8" here).

Like the grade visibility settings, it would be nice if the gradebook administrator could either make these settings school-wide or let classroom teachers make their own decisions.

I'm seeing more and more students who are having difficulty following directions, too, and would love to see an checkbox indicator that displays this to the parents and students.

Another example where it would be helpful if administrators and/or teachers could add custom grade indicators is for 'Did not follow directions'. This would indicate that some of the points were deducted from the student's assignment because they did not following directions. It would be best for this one if the custom indicator had the option to not force a specific grade reduction by percentage or number of points lost on the grade; informational only with perhaps the option to calculate a percentage lost if desired. Currently, teachers are typing 'did not follow directions' in the comment box. They enter this frequently enough that a checkbox indicator would be very helpful. The teachers do not use the 'incomplete' indicator for this purpose because there are students who do not actually complete assignments (which is different from completing the assignment but not following the directions).

It's also been requested that the school can create their own categories (for example: Academic Dishonesty).
