Connect teachers' "collected" button to student gradebooks.

The "collected" button for student assignments is for teacher reference only, confirming that a specific student assignment has been collected. On the student's assignment page that assignment is listed as "overdue" even though the student has done his/her part by submitting it in a timely manner. This is not only inaccurate but creates needless anxiety for students and families. When a teacher clicks the "collected" button that assignment should appear as collected on the student assignment page. That way the student is assured that his/her work is in the hands of the teacher and so can await grading when that is done.

This needs to be implemented soon, it was the first issue in our first week using Blackbaud that caused consternation, it gives a very poor first impression to all constituents and its priority should be looked at in that light. It should mark it as Completed both in the assignment center and in the grade detail. The grade detail is where our parents saw no grade and no note and asked the teachers about it, and the teachers had the proper expectation that they had marked it as Collected so why am I being asked about it needlessly? Should be a relatively quick implementation, you already know how to do it with other statuses like Missing. Don't add so much fluff and just fix the stuff that's there please.

    Hi Folks -

We're in the process now of revamping the student assignment center and the screen that students use to submit assignments. As part of this work, we'll be surfacing the Collected marker so students are able to see it, like they can other markings. We're also looking into how this affects the status of the assignment, so that the student isn't being put into an Overdue state even though their work was collected outside of the software.

No specific timeline to relay on this currently, but it is on our roadmap. If your school is potentially interested in joining the EAP for the upcoming Assignment Center changes, feel free to reach out to me at michael.morrissette@blackbaud.com and I can add your school to our list of potential EAP participants once we're ready later in the school year.

Agreed. We would like advisors and students to be able to see that the assignment has been collected please!

This needs to be changed for communication between the teacher, student, and parents.

At a minimum, there should be a "Note" in the Grade Detail window that indicates to the student that the assignment has been collected. Similar to the Missing, Late, Incomplete, and Exempt markers. Why is the Collected marker for teacher view only??

Blackbaud told us that the onus is on the student to change the status of the particular assignment to "Completed". I find this to be dangerous, because students could change their assignment status to be "Completed" at will, even if they don't turn in anything! Yes, we want them to be independent, but when they show their parents/teachers that all their work is "Completed", when that assignment status can be changed at will, that isn't helping the student.

Agreed @Morgan. I will say that most of our teachers were hoping that the new "Collected" feature acted like the "Missing Assignment" notification.

It would be nice if teachers had the option to choose if "Collected" notified the student/advisor or not.

Agree wholeheartedly with this assessment. In a recent thread in the discussions board, @benleddy confirmed that they do not plan to tie the "collected" button to a "completed" status in the student view.

Could another solution be to add a new badge to the student view called "Collected," or offer a score option of "C" for collected, or something that will allow teachers to show students (via the system) that their assignment is turned in?
