I often use in-system text submissions without a file upload as "quick write" assignments, and I would do so even more often if they could be viewed and graded more quickly. Rather than having to click the Submitted icon and then click "Go to student's assignment" and click through students one by one, it would save time if I could see the text they submitted on the "Evaluate assignment" box that appears when I click the icon, or even in hte ToolTip that appears when I hover the mouse pointer over the icon. For an assignment that includes uploaded text, it's a little silly to have a screen where we can enter a grade but can't see the submitted text we're evaluating.
