Faculty have observed that the current layout of an assignment, while providing much information, buries the lede. For an assignment that uses a learning tool placement, that placement is rendered off-screen for the average MacBook user (cf. the little slip of white at the bottom-left that is the Google Assignments launch link for this assignment).
While the recent assignment center redesign addresses a great deal of technological debt, and that is good, it would be MUCH appreciated if the assignments page were laid out with student eyes in mind. Out of sight is, it seems, out of mind.
Fantastic. Thank you!
Hi Folks -
As of this last release, we've made some updates to the Assignment Submission screen. Specifically, we have swapped the placement of the LTI Link Launch box and the Associated Tasks box. This means that when LTIs are linked to an assignment, students should see that box without needing to scroll.
We've also moved the placement of the Submit toolbar on the assignment page. The toolbar is now pinned at the bottom of the page and does not disappear when scrolling. So, when assignments have file submissions, the student doesn't need to scroll back up to the top to submit their assignment once files have been uploaded.
Hopefully these two changes make for a slightly better experience when using smaller screens.

IFrames are such a pain to work with programmatically. Somewhere I have some Javascript that auto-resized an iframe to "fit" its contents, but I think, as you suggest, there was some key information being passed around the IFRAME
Oh, interesting. Thanks for passing that along. I'll pass that to some of our engineers to see if we can make it larger on our end. I think we can pass through a default iframe value if Google Assignments isn't already.
I was expecting a much larger area like you can see with our Turnitin connection.
screenshot of Google Assignments wanting to just launch itself anyway in an iframe.
@michael Thanks for the iframe tip! Is there any way to configure the height of the iframe? It's, uh... pretty slender. (And Google Assignments continues to be not super-helpful on its side.)
Hey Folks -
When it comes to the Learning Tool box, we'll be swapping its placement with the Task box. This should help the LTI Launch Link be more visible to students when they first land on the page.
I'll also note that if you configure the tool to open in an iframe, that will populate as a box in the right-hand grid, allowing the student to stay within the LMS and not be directed into a new tab/window like the launch link currently does. We recently added this option, so just wanted to make sure everyone was aware it exists!
