Calculate student average on assignment grade entry BEFORE committing (because commits now get logged)

As of March 2026, the gradebook calculates the student grade average only AFTER committing the grade and we think the calculation should be done BEFORE grade commitment as a preview of what the average will be.

Often times teachers will add an assignment grade and want to see how it impacts a student overall average before it gets "locked" by committing it. The issue now is that because the gradebook only does this after committing the assignment grade, and because all users (students, parents, admins) can see a logged history of all committed grades over time, this "testing" of an assignment grade gets logged and revealed to everyone.

So if a teacher tests out an assignment grade 3 different times to see how it impacts an average, all those attempts and commitments get logged and revealed to users. A simple solution is to have the grade calculate after entering it in the cell as a "tentative" average, maybe indicated by a diferent color cell for the average, only changing to a normal state after the grade gets committed?
