For a practical example, we have 4 separate dorms (about 75 students each) and our house faculty assign students into rooms. They often do this process on spreadsheets so they make sure they don't forget anyone etc. Later, having to manually enter this into BBK is slow and prone to errors.
We also use a "day student" version of dorm groups to track locker numbers and to give a report card comment. We have ~800 students total and manually entering them is painfully tedious.
Since there is no restriction on how many dorms a student can be a part of, I don't see how this is much different than an academic or activity group enrollment.
