I would like for Teachers to be notified when a Student posts to a discussion (Assignment & Topics), as well as Students to receive notifications when their post is responded to.
Hi all! We're considering this idea and would like your input on how it should work. Please drop a line at ben.leddy@blackbaud.com if you're up for connecting via email or a video call. Thanks!
I second this! My students are terrible at going back and checking my responses and having to send them an email to check the response makes the whole "discussion" feature worthless. Also, if I set a due date, it disappears from their current assignments and then they NEVER look back. BUT I need a due date so that it can officially be marked late!
YES- we need this option as well. When setting up a discussion, please include a "notification" checkbox like on assingments and announcements, for students and teachers.
Now more than ever, this feature is needed. Virtual class work can be overwhelming for the teenage brain, and they need teasers to pull them back on track. If they have to go INTO a discussion to see if MAYBE something might have changed,... that's not going to happen, when every other software designed for a teenager is constantly pinging their devices to grab their attention. Now that our students are home and have many distractions already, the archaic silence of this LMS is doing precious little to compete against other notifications students get. I see this idea is almost 5 years old. How can we get it bumped up to the top?!!
I would vote for this as well. In addition, I would like all students to be notified when a teacher posts to the discussion. As it stands now, students post a comment and then don't ever look back over the discussion board. When I go in to redirect or correct a comment thread, I want all the students to be able to see it.
We agree that students and teachers should receive notifications as well. It can be difficult to have a timely discussion without notifications, and everyone would really like to know when someone comments on their posts.
Along the same lines is a notification on when an assignment is posted to an assignment, this would be great especially if you are waiting for just one or two people to submit their assignments.

Great suggestion! A notification checkbox would be very useful.

This is a frequent request from our faculty.
What a great idea. This would lead to more give and take.
Would also be effective for community group discussions - especially if the members could opt in or out of the notice.
We have a discussion board in a community group and I would like parents to be notified when someone posts a new comment on the discussion board.
Yes, please. Also, a notification when a student submits a past assignment.

I think this should notify students also, because I often post comments and see no responses. Same as the notifications for assignments turned in.
