Pragmatically, I can only imagine this working for assignments that are assigned to both the old and new sections (i.e. assignments that are assigned in only the old section wouldn't have a place to put the submissions in the new section). But… as an added layer: it would be fantastic to be able to easily see a students grades/submissions in their old session from before the transfer in the context of the new section.
