How to mark a transcript for withdrawn course with a "W"

I'm wishing I could add a "w" for withdrew to the drop down menu in Manage Grades>Grades&Credits-Dropped for students, like the "I" for incomplete.

    Currently we have to drop the student from the course. Then remember to re-enroll them in the same course, but as a transfer course to put in the W. Since we want all semester grades to be printed on the transcript at the same time, we have to wait months to do the second step. What happens if there's a change in employment and the message is not able to get passed to the next person? This information is just forgotten and lost. There needs to be a more efficient way to track withdrawal from courses.

     

    Keeping the student enrolled in the course is not an option, teachers hate when students are kept on their rosters after they've dropped the class.

    At my school we want dropped courses to remain on the transcript. I'm not really sure why there are so many options to remove students from a class section, but none preserve the course on the transcript!
