This was listed as "Implemented" in the latest release, but definitely has not been. In fact, it's now worse than it was before.
We have courses that follow different grade plans, so a "fall interim" grade, for example, can be in three different plans. We need each column to be able to display all of the "fall interim" grades in one, rather than have to build three separate columns. In the old report card, each column gave you one choice per grade plan of which grade to show, but now you can only choose one plan. So you have to make separate columns for each one, and they all show up, even if empty.
MINIMAL FIX: remove empty columns from the report - this would be helpful, at least
BETTER FIX: return to the old way of allowing multiple grade plans per column with a selection of which grade for each
PREFERRED: allow you to list any grade term / plan / grade combination for each column, and just show the first one that's available, which would handle our need for multiple "Course Grade" columns because we could then include multiple terms (that was the original idea, which wasn't "implemented")
I'm eager to use the much-nicer-looking new report card, but at the moment there's just no way it will work for us.
Hmmm ... this does sound like a good solution for graded vs. pass/fail courses (although having the same grade plan name is annoying - now I can't visually differentiate the plans for teachers). I don't think this solves semester vs. year-long course grades, though. Or should I be just calling all my grade plans the same thing, like "Upper School Grades"? I'm not sure what the point of having a grade plan name is, then, if they all have to be the same to utilize this. Right now my grade plans are things like "Fall Interim (Rotation Courses)", "Fall Interim (Intensive Courses)", and "Fall Interim P/F (Rotation Courses)". I see that calling them all the same thing makes it easy to implement a report to gather them all together, but I think we lose something in the ability to show teachers where their courses are. I suppose that's the sacrifice we have to make here?
If each grade plan has the same name, and each grade plan grade has the same name, the grades will all appear in the same column. This is detailed in the following new article: https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/121392
