Streamline presentation of rooms throughout the SIS

The displaying of rooms throughout the SIS product is an inconsistent mess. There are a few scattered ideas relating to room numbers all over the idea bank, some back as far as 9-10 years, but really the whole thing needs a refresh. Below is a short review of just how scattershot the display of room numbers is in the SIS:

  • In the Manage Classes modal, Building/Room is the first three letters of the building name and the room number, but not the room name or code.

  • In Set Section Info, it's the full building name, then the full room name, then the room number.

  • In a course setup, on the Edit Rooms modal, it's the room name, then the room number.

  • In the Group Finder list, it's the exact opposite: the room number, then the room name.

  • In the header of a class (either by selecting it from the Group Finder or the teacher's view of the class - the "View Details" dropdown), it's the word "Room", followed by the full building name, then the room number.

  • On the parent and student's Progress tab, if the room name is filled in, it displays, but otherwise nothing at all shows.

  • On the parent and student's Schedule tab, it's the full building name, then the room number, but not the room name.

Trying to get room numbers to display in a usable fashion is a fool's errand, in all honesty. In our case, with multiple buildings, it's really a nightmare. At the very least, please get the devs to streamline to one or two displays so that it's consistent and we can have a little bit of an expectation of uniformity. Ideally, an option similar to the username formats in Core where different room numbers could display differently depending on the area would be even better.

Agreed! Nice summary and good suggestion, @BrianLeBlanc!

      • Consistency in naming convention is so important

      • Control over naming convention is so helpful

      • Documentation on how things show up in different places is forward-thinking!
