This seems like a simple fix that would be obvious to anyone ever using the product.  When using People Finder, dropdown where you search for people only remains visible when you hover over it.  You should be able to click it open and select from it, and when the dropdown is active, it shouldn't disappear unless the mouse is clicked elsewhere.
