Clarify assignment statuses in gradebook view

Assignments with a comment or status are highlighted with a red triangle in the gradebook, but teachers have to hover their mouse over, or double-click the assignment to see the nature of the status. Since both assignment-driven (missing, incomplete) and attendance-driven (absent/tardy) statuses cause the assignment to be highlighted, the gradebook quickly becomes a sea of red triangles. I propose one or a combination of the following:

  • Option to hide attendance-related statuses from gradebook (most teachers are concerned about assignment-driven statuses)
  • Letter notification next to score in assignment cell (e.g. "M" for Missing, "I" for Incomplete, "C" for Comment, etc.)
  • Color coding for triangles, to separate attendance-related, Missing, Incomplete, Late, or Comment status

With these enhancements, teachers wouldn't have to run, print, or reference additional reports in order to interpret their gradebooks. Thank you for considering this request.

Great news! We made some major improvements to Gradebook over the summer, including adding more meaningful visual icons to denote Absent, Missing, Incomplete and Exempt. We also show a comment indicator that can be hovered over to read. No more red triangle!

Also, shortcut key support has been added to simplify input.

We hope your teachers are enjoying the improvements!

Love the idea to color code triangles for assignment vs attendance related issues. I also agree with the "C" to indicate a comment exists.
