Limit date selection for assignments to specific terms

Similar to limiting the grade book categories for assignments it'd be nice if there was a way to limit the semester/quarter/trimester dates to pick for assignments.

The problem often occurs after the end of a term when teachers are putting in their last-minute assignments. They choose the current date that is after the term for the assignment. This causes the submission to fail with a generic error message.

A few potential solutions:

  • limit the date picker to the term they have selected in grade book when they go to add an assignment
  • have a dropdown for terms in the add assignment area
  • improve the error message to be more specific

    This is a tricky one - we need teachers to be able to create an assignment ahead of a new term, that is due in the next one....I'm worried that limiting date selection will disallow this feature.

    Yes!!! I spend way too much time trying to help teachers add last minute assignments. The current set up is not user friendly.
