Our Upper School does not write progress reports for all students, but only those who meet a specific academic watch criteria. We were hoping to take advantage of adding a "current grade" grade column that would show the current grade of the course in which they were receiving the comment. However, adding a grade column on the report card will show all currently enrolled courses to show whether or not they have a grade entered.
It would be great if the courses would only show when a grade is entered for that course.
1) Parents would not see empty course/grade rows that would cause confusion.
2) Teachers could easily enter the grade (or calculate from grade book).
Another use would be for handling our Music Majors. Our Music Majors need to have a different grading schema than non-Music Majors for their ensemble courses. We started to setup the non-Major course to only be used for grading, but quickly realized that we would have empty columns for the non-Music Major version of the course. In these courses, teachers need to (1) maintain Bulletin Boards, (2) maintain topics, (3) assign assignments, (4) take attendance, and (5) do grades. We want to make things as simple as possible for our teacher's day-to-day while also allowing for our different grading schema for our Music Majors. Given the empty columns showing, we need to have our teachers now manage two identical courses for just a few students.
The new report card builder now has a course row suppression option for the Courses Grid. Schools can select to suppress rows for courses that do not have a grade and/or comment entered for the Grades/Comments selected to be included in the report card.
