So this would not apply when the Import Assignments feature is used?

If this is accurate, then I would suggest that the functionality be implemented when teachers import as well. Many teachers use import as their primary way of creating assignments. I'm sure you have data on this, but I would guess it's over 80% of all assignments that are created. My personal use of Import is about 95% of the time, to be honest.

Hi Folks -

With the release of the new assignment experience this last year, this is now possible! The feature is able to be configured on a teacher-by-teacher basis and is housed within the Preferences feature. Teachers can access this from the Assignment Center or their Gradebooks. I will note that this only impacts the new, quick assignments. The legacy version of assignments does not support this update.

We also have teachers asking if the assignment due time could be the beginning of the class on the date due, not 11:59pm, which is after class is over. Hoping this can get worked out!

And the time should default to the beginning of the next class.

I think having the ability to enable this feature would be a great option! Just let us know when we are able to choose our next class as our default due time and how to set it up. Please also allow us to have this feature without having to enable it again every year. Thank you so much for investigating it!

We're talking through how we want to bring this to you all in the near future. Generally, the "happy path" is very possible (Each class has a single meeting time per day, and the schedule never changes). It gets a little more complicated in situations where the class has multiple meeting times on a single day. Likewise, do we target the class start time or the class end time - potentially we give you the option to choose which you prefer.

The other difficult part with implementing something like a "next class period" option, rather than putting in a hard due date/time, it could cause some issues when there's a schedule change. We'd need to create some kind of a process that would refresh those assignment dates once the Master Schedule is saved. It's certainly not impossible, but a solution along those lines becomes a little more complicated to build.

I imagine if we did such a thing, we'd likely implement an admin level default akin to the Default Due Time field so you all could decide to turn this on or off and then, given the option is enabled, auto-populate the due date / time when the teacher launches the +Assignment modal based on the next sequential class meeting date/time. We could also do something like where if the teacher selects a date, we automatically populate the time field based on the date selected (rather than requiring the teacher to select both a date and time).

If the system can auto fill the current date, and it already identifies the next class., Then it should be able to auto fill the next upcoming class. I would love this feature! Please 🙏

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! This would be incredibly helpful and make creating assignments so much faster! A magical change if it is possible!

Seems like all the data is in the system, it would be fantastic to be able to make it easier for teachers to set due dates based on their schedule. Especially when assigning the same assignment to multiple classes!

Yes! This would make posting assignments much quicker!
