In student attendance, it is easy to mistakenly enter an attendance reason for the entire day rather than for a specific time period. Once the attendance has been entered, you can change the reason for each block, but there is no way to go back to the "blank." The problem is we don't know what the attendance will be for the whole day, but now because it was mistakenly recorded, we have to enter a reason. It would be useful to be able to go back to the "blank" in the reason field since we don't know what will need to be recorded later in the day. This is also useful if attendance has been recorded for a range of dates but then needs to be changed. For example, a student's parent called to say they would be out of town for 2 weeks, but then they ended up coming to school during that second week. Block by block we could correct the attendance, but it would have been nice to have been able to go back to a blank attendance record for each day.
