This idea is helpful once we are in the rolling admission time frame. Even though the admission counselors are checking statuses of their candidates, I like to let them know as files are completed. But as I process multiple recommendation letters or other items, I don't always view the candidates file afterward. I might miss the candidate's status to let the admission counselor know, or the admission counselor could be out of the office that day and I forget.
