Ability to reduce character limit by question in Student Statement block of online application

I'd like the ability to set the character limit (per question) in Student Statement block of online application.

For example, we'd like some to be just 1000, but the main essay be the maximum 4000.

Also, an option to hide the counter. Saying "4000 characters" invites an essay.

    Being able to set the character limit is a feature that we VERY MUCH would like to see added ASAP.

    It would be super helpful to set the character limit on parent and student short answers and essay questions! Not it be set at hard coded 4000..

    Wasted so much time reading unnecessarily long responses, yes please give us control over character limits! This was requested almost 6 years ago... sigh.

    Yes, and it would be helpful to adjust this word count for other application boxes as well.
