This is our school's first year using Blackbuad, and shortly before we rolled out to parents, we turned off the Conduct module solely because we couldn't suppress the word "infraction" from displaying to parents, teachers, and others in our community.
As an independent school (preschool through Grade 8), we want to be able to replace the word "infraction" with something more neutral, like "event" or "occurrence" so that we can use the Conduct module.
While we were going through the selection process, our sales rep told us that he’d heard similar feedback from other schools. Does anyone know if this idea has been posted already? I searched but couldn’t find a similar thread.
To explain a little more, we have a real need for Conduct module features. We want to notify parents of tardy recurrences and absences, and to better track incidents at school.
While negative behaviors at our school do have defined outcomes, it’s the vocabulary of infractions and consequences that does not fit with our ethos or philosophy. When students break the rules, they are required to reflect on their behavior, including considering how their actions affect others and how to avoid future occurrences.
Personally, I’d like to be able to use the Conduct module to recognize positive behaviors as well as negative ones, possibly with outcomes that are reward-oriented. (After all, conduct means how you conduct yourself, i.e., the manner in which you behave, and there’s positive to be found there too.)
I was very excited when our middle school director approached me about using the conduct feature, but ran into this same issue. After some discussion, we are going ahead with the plan because we do not have conduct displayed to parents and students, but even for our teachers, the term "infraction" does not convey the correct message.
We also have the same issue with wanting to be able to record positive behavior notes which look a little strange when labeled "infraction." We would like to be able to relabel this section like we can for group types in core under custom label settings.
I agree, such a powerful change so those who use it as infractions can continue to do so, but with some thoughtful change to the wording, organizations would be empowered to use this tool to report positive incidents, not just negative.
I posted this over three years ago but I don't think it's been reviewed. We are still not using the Conduct module because of the language and labels. We'd still very much like to use it for attendance notifications as well as behavior/conduct.
There are a number of other ideas that are similar, dating back to 2016. @Blackbaud Product Team, please can you review?

We would love for Conduct to be used for GOOD and BAD behavior. Having the observed conduct labeled "Infraction" eliminates the possibility of us using it for the good behaviors that exemplify our core values. I'd love for this to be one of the custom text fields that we can change the name of.
Absolutely! I'd like for us to be able to use a word of our choice, or multiple words for different reports, or, if that is not possible, then use a neutral word like "occurrence". Thank you!
I like the word occurrence in place of infraction.
