Blackbaud could learn from other SIS vendors by looking at the way their LMS handles communication. One example is how Veracross creates dynamic distribution lists that can be used in any email client and that update automatically when a roster of a group or a class is changed. This allows a user to keep an email address that acts like a dynamic distribution list. When the dynamic distribution list is used it will always check with the LMS to see who is in the roster that is tied to the distribution list before forwarding the message on. There are videos on YouTube that show this functionality by simple searching "email veracross" which better describe this functionality. I can see this solving a lot of the pains that a tremendous amount of schools are currently suffering when using the limited Messages feature that currently built in to the onProducts.
