Allowing extended time on assessments for certain individuals
It would be nice if there was a feature to give certain students extended time on the assessments. Some students are given (sometimes mandated) accommodations - often extended time on tests.
We need to be able to extend the actual time of an assessment after a student starts the assessment. Need #1. Extend for entire class section, and #2. Extend just for an individual. Not the Extend Date (which has a bug right now), but the actual time count down.
Released today. Just a heads up too though - this idea exists multiple times on the forum already with many votes. For future ideas make sure you search first and vote up existing submissions because ideas with high votes get prioritized. Thanks!
We have figured out a work around for this in the meantime and I am not sure if it addresses everyone's needs.
We have the teacher make a copy the assessment. Change the name to differentiate it from the original, increase the time so let's say someone with 50% extended time she would increase the original time allotted to include the extra 50%. Then in the grade book exempt any student who this assessment doesn't apply to. While the other students can see the assessment they cannot access it only those students that are not exempt can access the assessment. For now, this has worked out for us but ideally it should be easier to increase the allotted time for one or two students in a class.
This would be especially helpful now that our teachers have moved to using more online assessments...
From one of our teachers:
"I have several students with testing accommodations and was wondering if there was a way to create an assessment that allows those students to get double the time of their classmates? Any feedback or recommendations are welcome. A brief history…I used the assessment tool before, but gave all of the students the same time to complete the quizzes. Some of the students with extended time have concerns about this arrangement as they feel it put them at a disadvantage. I want to be able to work something out for them as we go forward with the online assessments."
