Add Preferred name on Assignment tool for teachers

Only the first name shows in the Assignment tool for teachers. It would be helpful if teachers had the ability to show first OR preferred name like they do in the Gradebook and Attendance tools.

    Hey Folks -

I'm closing this Idea out as Implemented, but I'm happy to talk through any feedback on the implemented solution.

The new Assignment, Assessment and Discussion evaluation screens look at the User name format that is enabled in Core > Users > User profile settings > User name format. Given the preferred name is utilized in that setting, then it will be used on those evaluation screens.

I know that this doesn't give the teacher the option to choose between seeing either first or preferred, but it does allow for the school to determine which name is the most important to display and how that should be displayed in more areas of the system.

Feel free to reach out to me at michael.morrissette@blackbaud.com if you'd like to chat through this some more. We have plans to make that User name format setting a more prominent influence in more areas of the product. Hopefully that will make for a more consistent experience, especially when it comes to naming formats.

    -Mike

It's not just helpful, it's important. You support pronouns and preferred names but then use legal name on the new Assignment page AND on any files that are attached. I've had multiple trans students notice this and ask why the system does this. Unfortunately, it speaks to a bigger problem that is all over BBK12 -- inconsistent use of identical data. Please put more focus into a consistent experience for your users. Contact card/profile, strange non-standard use of icons and mouse rollover fx, non-standard use of accepted icons (like drop-down arrows, which BB consistently uses opposite to how they're designed... these things add up to nagging frustrations for our teachers that ultimately undermines our ability to promote the tool internally.

Any information on when this might be fixed?
