In the past, the public website athletic rosters displayed names in the format of
lastname, firstname (nick if exists)
such as
Jones, Susan (Suzie)
The formatting rules worked for the bulk of our athletes, but there were a few that really only wanted the nickname to show. The new "nickname only" feature on an athlete's roster settings resolved that.
However, in the mix, the default public website athletic rosters are now displaying as
lastname, firstname
without the nickname in parenthesis if it exists.
We would love if the default would be back to the original formatting rules but also understand that different schools would like different controls (example is first name and last initial like https://blackbaudk12.ideas.aha.io/ideas/K12OM-I-533) and that there are one offs even within a single school.
Is there a way to get the default display back to the original
lastname, firstname (nick if exists)
?
Is there a way to have more control at the school level for both the athletic roster team detail widget and the new athletic roster team detail widget while also keeping the nickname only option valid for those few exceptions to the general rule? Maybe at the CSS level like the Affinity Content Type? I understand that the nickname field may need to have an if/else logic handling version to handle those athletes who do not have a nickname, and that makes is more challenging.
Public athletic rosters have various uses at different schools, and we are trying to meet all needs while keeping our individual athletics and their parents in mind as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions,
Danielle
I just discovered that this can be done within the roster section of each webpage. Go to School Website, Website Management, Edit Website, click View Site, navigate to the team page, click Edit Content in the floating toolbar at bottom right, locate Team Roster and click the settings icon, Athlete Name Display settings including {Preferred else First name} options. It would be great if it automatically respected the User Name Formats setting, but this gets you there for each roster.
Many players and coaches do not want their first names displayed on public websites. They are known by their nicknames (or preferred names). We cannot change their first name to their nickname in Core because we need their legal first name to be listed. I don't understand why the new athletic module went backward in ability as I could always specify whose names to display nicknames. How can we get this ability back?
