Grades should transfer with students during schedule changes

When a student is moved from one section of a course to another section of the same course using the change sections option, grades should transfer with the student. It would be great if attendance also transferred.

    Good Morning Everyone -

With today's release, we have introduced a new setting that teachers can toggle when they are calculating grades. The checkbox is called, 'Include previous section grades' and they will see this on the second step of the calculation wizard. When this setting is enabled, if any students were in a previous section of the course and transferred to a new section, the previous section grades will be included in the calculation.

For example, a student completes Semester 1 in English 1 - A and transfers to English 1 - C for Semester 2. If the final grade is calculated as (Semester 1 grade + Semester 2 grade) / 2, enabling Include previous section grades uses the Semester 1 grade from English 1 – A and the Semester 2 grade from English 1 – C.

We have plans to make this is an admin-level default toggle as we get further in the grading journey project. For now, teachers can enable this while running through the calculation wizard.

My understanding is this was going to be in by now. Do we have any updates? Our teachers have to manually calculate final grades at the end of the year for any student that changes sections during mid year.

This would be very helpful for us, and I also agree that it should include all assignments, including ungraded, annotations, etc. If the issue is that the grade categories are not the same, they can leave any non-matching ones blank. The teacher can edit those themselves (this will be so much easier than importing every single grade on their own!)

We are super happy to see this is planned! Agree with the below comments that it should apply to the gradebook assignments, grades, attendance and online submissions... both graded and ungraded.

Not only grades, but any online submissions and assessments should also move with the student so they can see any annotations and comments provided by the teacher before switching sections. Students lose access to their own coursework when they transfer to a new section and this is just wrong.

oh my gosh, yes please! This would save so much work! Gradebook grades, comments, assignments and attendance!

Agreed - Gradebook grades, assignments and attendance are what's helpful here.

I would vote for this, but it should apply to the gradebook assignments and
attendance as opposed to the quarter/final grades suggested by the
commentor. The VAST number of section transfers in our school occur BEFORE
quarter grades are entered. If this feature deals only with quarter/final
grades, it will be of no use to us.

To be clear - just asking from Recorded Grades (not Gradebook assignments but Quarter and Semester and Final Grades.
