When we give access to parents (parent of user) to update some profile information (such as the student's wireless phone number), the parents have edit rights to the student's FIRST and LAST NAME fields because the edit rights are given to the whole User Profile Update block and the FIRST and LAST NAME fields are locked so we cannot protect them from being updated. We need the option to display (not update) those two fields as they must match the student's birth certificate or legal document indicating name change.
